Why Your Website Needs Video: Closing the Gap Photos and Copy Can’t

by Jake Ressler | Sep 16, 2026

You spent real time on your website. The copy is solid, your photos look professional, and everything is clean and organized, exactly the way it should be. But people are landing on it and not doing much once they get there, and that gap between a good-looking site and actual conversions is more common than most business owners realize.

The missing piece is almost always video.

People want to hear from you directly, not just read about you in carefully edited paragraphs. They want to see your product actually being made, not just a photo of the finished result sitting on a clean background. They want to watch a real customer talk about their experience working with you, in their own words, with their own tone and hesitation and enthusiasm coming through. They want to get a feel for your team and your culture before they ever pick up the phone or fill out a contact form, because that first impression shapes whether they reach out at all. In any industry, photos and copy can only take a visitor so far before they need something more to actually trust you. Video is what closes that gap.

And it's not just about having something on your homepage. Video touches more parts of your business than most people realize, often quietly working in places nobody thinks to check.

Social clips keep you showing up in front of your audience every week, staying top of mind between purchases or projects, even when nobody's actively looking to buy right now. Product demos let your sales team send something concrete before a call, so prospects walk in already understanding the basics instead of needing everything explained from scratch. Brand story pieces tell the world who you are and why you do what you do, which matters more than ever in a crowded market where a lot of competitors look similar on paper. Training videos make onboarding more efficient, cutting down the time it takes a new hire to actually get up to speed and start contributing.

All of that runs through video. And all of it is working for your business in different ways, all at the same time, often without you having to think about it once it's set up properly and living in the right places.

The bare minimum has shifted. A few years ago, a strong website with good copy and photos was enough to stand out from the competition. That's no longer the case. If you're not showing up with dynamic video content that actually speaks to your audience, your competitors are, and they're having conversations with your future customers right now, closing deals that could have gone your way, while you're still getting around to it.

If your website feels like it's missing something but you can't quite put your finger on it, there's a good chance this is it. Take a look at your homepage today and ask yourself honestly: if a prospect landed here right now, would they actually get a feel for who you are, or just read about it and click away without ever really connecting?

Let's talk.
