Why the Best Video Shots Are Never the Obvious Ones

by Chad Ressler | Oct 14, 2026

One of the things a video team thinks about on every single shoot is how to show something in a way that nobody has seen it before.

And we mean that literally and figuratively.

And this is especially true for fields like manufacturing and other corporate businesses where everything is very unique.

On the literal side, this can mean getting the camera somewhere unexpected. I can't tell you the amount of times we've used a go pro with a clamp or suction cup mount to get a POV shot of a machine or a close up shot on a moving car. Or drone videography being able to see angles you just can't replicate from the ground. Obviously most of video content is going to be from from eye level because that is the easiest place to put a camera and for things like interviews or standard b-roll it is pretty essential. But eye level video is also the most forgettable if you are looking to stand out so that's something to think about if you want to mix up your video content.

(We did this recently on a shoot with IC Automation that you can learn more about in the "What the Twins Have Been Up To" section!)

But the figurative side is just as important and it is something a lot of video agencies and their clients don't think about.

Most companies tell their story from one perspective. Maybe it's the owner, or the marketing team it's centered around what the company thinks people should know about them. And that is a fine place to start for most businesses looking into doing video.

But we would push you to see how you can change that up and show new unexpected perspectives in your content. Some ways of doing that are staff testimonials so people get a glimpse into what it's like working for your company. Or a video with one of your longtime clients talking about your relationship and how it's developed overtime.

Those sorts of "angles" can speak to your audience in a way normal corporate jargon just can't.

Great video is really just great storytelling. And great storytelling almost always comes from finding an angle that nobody else thought to look for.

Next time you are thinking of creating a video, ask yourself: whose perspective have we not heard yet?

WHAT HAVE THE TWINS BEEN UP TO?

POV Shot of a robotic arm working

We recently had a great shoot with the team at IC Automation alongside our friends at 440 Marketing. And this one gave us a chance to get a little creative with how we captured things.

The team even broke out the GoPro on this one to get inside the equipment and shoot from POV angles of the robot arm moving and doing its job (In simple terms). That is exactly the kind of cool angle we are always chasing on an industrial shoot like this. This is the kind of shot that makes someone stop in their tracks and really gets and audience's attention.

Really excited for people to see how this content comes together.
